About Coaching

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as 'partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential'

What coaching IS and IS NOT

When I tell people I am a Coach, more often than not I am met with a quizzical look. Most people don't fully understand what true coaching is. Their most common frame of reference is sports coaching and they imagine someone standing on the edge of football pitch shouting 'Watch out for the counter attack!'' Additionally, with the rise of social media and influencers, there are no end of 'experts' willing to advise and coach you (with no qualifications) on how to get richer, more successful, more attractive quicker! And those examples are the first misunderstanding of coaching. A well trained coach will NOT tell you what to do.

A coach will work with the you to define the goals that YOU think are important.  The philosophy is that you are the expert on your life and work, and that being creative, resourceful and whole, you can uncover your own insights, solve your own problems and dilemmas and make the changes you want. You just need a well trained professional coach to partner with you to listen intently, to be curious and ask great questions to help you understand your current reality and your goal and then help you take one step at a time in the direction of the change you seek.

A Psychosynthesis coach will work at all levels of your life and your whole person. Psychosynthesis coaching is deeply supportive, works to understand how the past is informing your present. It works with your present to expand your consciousness, engage your spirit and your will to change to make your future. It takes you to the essence of who you are.

On the other hand, coaching is NOT therapy. Coaches may recommend therapy if they feel a person is deeply traumatised or significantly stuck. Most people have self capacity for change despite previous experiences or wounding in life. Coaches are there to help you move forward!
